If I well understood you want to know the principle applied to calculate CL from rails. I didn't find any documentation on this but I just made some few tests. The result confirm what I guessed. I attached a PDF with a schema. the left rail is used as a reference 2 perpendiculars are erected from each vertex (except POB and POE) and the intersection is found with the right rail A point is interpolated at the middle of each perpendicular The final point (CL) is interpolated from the 2 previous points Usually both rails are surveyed at the same time and points should be close one from the other. So the result using one rail or the other should be almost the same. A double process is not used to refine the result.
