Hello Vincent; Rail version has a Multitrack tool for this purpose. So if you have a multitrack section please use the tool, do not try to create an template. Divided Origin component is for road templates. Multitrack tool requires a track template and a corridor template. Corridor template typically represents subbalast layer and end conditions. It is wide enough to accommodate multiple tracks. Track template on the other hand represents the ballast layer and is only for a single track. These templates are merged into a single corridor template by using to multiple track tool. For this reason, existing templates in the library, inside the multi track folder, has flat bottom and top regions (so they will fit each other). Yard tool is also similar to this workflow and essentially converts a single track section into a multitrack. The workflow is defined this way (instead of using a single template) so that program has greater flexibility in adding turnouts to individual tracks and also enable adding electrification more easily. If you are placing a tunnel or bridge you should select the underlying Corridor template.

Hello Peter; Can you send me an example of what you need to define in design standards. Some sample data or examples will really help. So we can address the gap in the future updates.

This is currently not possible, but I will investigate this and see how it can be implemented.

It has been a couple months since I was trying to set standards. Here are the standards I regularly use . From memory, I'd like to be able to: Have design standards that allow chord input and maximum curvature for horizontal curves (right now it's just max and min arc length) Minimum length of constant grade Minimum vertical tangent length Maximum grad based on location of track (changes around stations) Minimum length of vertical curves (again, can change based on location) Combined horizontal and vertical curvature (see formula 3.18 on the pdf linked above) Allow turnout design in imperial units (last I tried, it was in metric). I found the turnout design extremely confusing for american turnouts as I have not found a turnout standard with all the parameters OpenRails calls for. I attempted to measure from old PDF's, and it was inaccurate. See page 52 for the information we are given. I may have forgotten some other rail specific standards that are in the MBTA standards linked at the beginning. I had to make this quick, and haven't completely explored everything in OpenRail. If there is a way to input what I listed already, please let me know. Wish the US was metric!

T hanks for you're reaction Jean-Pierre Lets say for a project when we finished our alignement we have to make an export for our client. The client will check the alignement. The client uses ther own software for this and other clients uses AutoDesk or Bentley software. Most can work with XML files. I have not looked into ifc how this could help but this could help. I hope they can add this into the xml export.

Forum Post: Crashing when importing ALG file into ORLD (Update 6)

Hi, I'm trying to import some horizontal and vertical alignments into ORLD. But software is waiting too much or finally crushing. I also imported them into PRT(SS4) easily. Also ORLD works slower than PRT. My horizontal alignments have 4 vertical alignments. Is this the reason? I don't understand why it happens. Can you help me? Regards, CAN

When I use the P&P Generator, it "creates" P&P's, but when I go to sheet index, select the sheet, then hit show sheet, it tells me: "The border INR_PlUS could not be placed at the specified location" Any ideas how to fix this? Power Rail Track 08.11.09.878

Forum Post: BRT fails to open on startup.

Hi I've done a service request on this but thought I'd put it out there in case there is a quick response / solution. I observed a newer version of Bentley Rail Track on the select server so decided to download to update the older version I had installed. Running the exe file appeared to remove the old version and installed the new version which failed to load the BRT explorer window on startup. I have now removed all the Bentley products today taking care to remove any residual trails left behind (a clean uninstall). I have re-installed on my Windows 10 laptop (in this order) Connection Client 10.00.13.17, Microstation 08.11.09.832, Powerdraft 10.10.00.23, Projectwise 10.00.03.49 and Bentley Rail Track 08.11.09.903. Microstation, Powerdraft and Projectwise all appear to be working fine and together but opening BRT opens Microstation as normal but does not complete startup by opening the BRT browser window. Microstation appears to install the civil tools under the tasks tool and even the Subsurface Utility dropdown menu so things are happening. Can anyone advise what file I can run to launch this BRT window? I know the older Select Series 2 version could launch from running CivUstAT.ma but this file is no longer available and seems now the startup process is a lot more interlaced with configuration files. Thanks Steve

Forum Post: Track Drainage in SUE

What is the current workflow for the laying out and design of track drainage in SUE in OpenRail. I am quite happy with using the top/bottom 3D cells to create my physical features of the catch basin that I am using. I am also happy with the pipes feature definition and sizes, both in the feature definition and from the catalogue definitions. I can get on board with catchment feature definitions and this all makes sense. What I cannot work out is how to work with assigning catchment areas to inlets/catchbasins. The way track drainage works is that perforated pipes act as collector pipes. Water percolates through the ballast to the formation, which is laterally sloped to drain into the pipes. These pipes then drain through the catchpits to outfall. The catchpits are placed to allow maintenance, and to allow a small amount of sump storage/attenuation in the network For track drainage then, while I can assign a catchment areas, there is no associated gutter for defining the hydraulic prototype of the catch basin for design, as the pipes are the collecting medium, which change in length depending on the physical constraints of the network i.e. distance between nodes. So this value is not set for a specific node. Has anyone got any idea of the best way to undertake this type of design if you are not draining a surface ,but a subsurface using pipes as a collector. Thanks Alastair

The 4 vertical alignments should not make it fails. I already imported several alg without any issue. Are you able to share the alg ? Or create a service request with the ALG attached so that we can have a look on what is going wrong. Did you try without creating civil rules ?

Do you have any warning/error when drawings are created ? Could you open the sheet by opening the dgn model ?

In this case, the catch basin does not receive surface flow. Since you can assign a catchment area to a manhole, as well as to a catch basin, you could place manholes and simply assign the catchment area to the upstream manhole of each pipe. This means that you don't need to define how the catch basin operates in terms of collecting surface flow.

yes it is. A first implementation (tech preview) will be available in 2019-Q1 release. Already there in internal build.

I just got ORD in my computer today. The first impression is the ORD is totally different interface with Power Rail Track. Stupid question: 1. What is Connect Edition ORD? 2. Does ORD use XIN file? 2. How do I import RWK or ALG file into ORD? Thanks. Irwan Joe

Took a while but have managed to solve this. It appears RailTrack.3.1.cfg was not pointing to the registry correctly.
