Hi, can anyone advise me why I can not describe segements from the design surface? Only segments in the current surface can be described. You need to display features as crossing points You must select the surface that contains segment you want to annotate. The surface itself must be displayed, not only the components. You must check the box "Use segments" Then ensure the symbology used to annotate is ok. Use the list of feature if you want to annotate just between some selected features

Alex I can understand your frustration. That why we only use SS2 - because it is fit for purpose!. However, Bentley still require us to pay annual subscription for Openrail - nearly double the previous subscription cost. About 2-3 years ago I spoke to Ian Rosam at an Open Technology seminar and asked him why Openrail has not been released (remember Openroads was released a number of years before Openrail), his reply was that there was no demand from the rail industry(!) Now jpln tells us "developers have been catering to [is] users and market". When I ask my former colleagues in the UK about OpenRail their responds is, "What?". As I said, SS2 is for fit for purpose, all it needed was improvement and gradual and systematic migration to "Open Roads" type technology. Why not allow the SS2 workflow to continue (more-or-less) in parallel with the new technology. No, the first thing they did was scrap the cross-section tools - so one could do everything(?) up to before cross-section creation, but no further - this makes no sense. Recently, I thought I'd try using OpenRail purely for draughting to get used to the ribbon (another pain), however, it was slow and tends to lock for no rhyme-or-reason. So I gave up. When SS2 stops working in Windows 11, 12 etc. we will switch to "you know who". Good Luck!

Indeed.... I think there is a total disconnection now between Bentley developers and Bentley users, especially our US-based. I think they try to 'convert' Autocad crowd into Bentley products by catering to them with a set of dysfunctional Autocad-ish tools and overall programme behaviour such as inability to use stable dialogue boxes and launch multiple commands simultaneously. I would say overall the Open version is dumber than true Inroads by bunching up everything into DGN. Another thought is that they are trying to create an interface for simpletons like smart phone users. Just push that red bubble, and cute little app starts popping up. Since such users don't know how to operate an actual programme, apps are geared for this mentality. It is the only way since using browser or logical thinking-based interface is too much for them. One little app at the time, one little button with graphical click . What a pity.....

Forum Post: Yet another question.... Can editor does not retain speed entries, keeps re-setting itself to 70 mph.
I am running Power Rail Track V8i SS4, version V08.11.09.904. I have to use Swept Envelope Analysis and there is no way around but use cant alignment. Not to mention that terminology 'cant' and the entire settings are totally incorrect for US Class One railroads, the command itself is acting strangely: The cant editor does not keep my entries for speeds for each segment. It resets to 70 mph (freight? seriously!!!) every time I close ALG or the programme. What does control this behaviour and how can I get rid of incorrect settings?

I don't have any issue. What I did: Edit cant Change the speed Apply Save ALG Close ALG Open ALG Are you following such workflow ? I never faced such issue in SS4 and it has never been reported in the past.

hello , I'm unable to capture google earth image in ss4 after Geographic Coordinate Setup. Do I have use any specific version of Google Earth???? Getting Massage "Wait google Earth initializing................" Massage Details are " Google Earth is not initialized completely, please check if your Google Earth could work fine or initialized then try this function again." I'm a frequent user of PRT and this function is working properly in PRT, but not in Open Rail Designer. Please help me in this issue.

Are you using Rail Track SS4 or OpenRail Designer ? There are some known issue with Google Earth Pro x64. I am using 7.3.2.5495 (32-bit) and it does work well in both.

In OpenRail you can do a 3D cut of the 3D model in the profile view; Then you can use the labelling tool to annotate the drawing model. You won't get all information in one click but it can help.

Unfortunately the only solution I know, and successfully used, is to run GE 7.3.2.5495 (32-bit). not a big deal, at least for me. I tested installing latest GE x64 with OpenRail 10.06.00.38 and there is still an issue. But if you have rail track and it does work, you can use rail track to get the google earth mesh in the dgn and use the dgn in openrail. Also remember that you can use bingmap when only a background map is useful (Connected user, GCS, then View attributes).

The question is how to get the information on the profile. In Rail Track you can project and annotate features and points, alignments. You can also display and annotate crossing features. You can use cell to display points. All of these can allow you to bring some information on the profile. Then you can add some "manual" information using profile drafting notes or text/label

Forum Post: How to remove readonly access for ALG files in Power Rail Track
Hi all, I am working with Power Rail Track (V8 SS4), faced issue - with READONLY access for ALG files. I don't know the exact reason for this issue. Verified in Project Options > Geometry > Chosen Read & Write in Horizontal Alignment too. Tried with SAVE AS alg option also but still it is in Readonly access. Is there any other way to Verify or resolve this Readonly access issue. Thanks in advance naveen
